Class ten Student Dies by Hanging After Skipping Class and Returning to Hostel in Tamluk; Police Suspect Romantic Issues; Family Demands Impartial Probe
The hanging body of a Class ten student was discovered in his hostel room during school hours. The tragic incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, June 30, at a residential school under the jurisdiction of Tamluk Police Station. The deceased student has been identified as Sukhen Das; he had been residing in the school hostel for a long time. A pall of gloom has descended upon the school and the local area.
According to school sources, classes began as usual during the morning session on Tuesday. Sukhen had come to class from the hostel in the morning. After attending two periods, he suddenly left the classroom and returned to the hostel. When other residential students returned to the room after school hours, they found Sukhen hanging from the ceiling fan with a gamchha (traditional towel) wrapped around his neck.
Terrified, the students immediately informed the teachers. The headmaster was notified and contacted the Tamluk Police Station. Police arrived, broke down the door, and recovered the body. The body has been sent to Tamralipta Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
An official from Tamluk Police Station stated, “No suicide note was found at the scene. Based on conversations with friends and an examination of his mobile phone, it initially appears that the student took this extreme step due to mental distress stemming from a romantic issue. However, all aspects are being investigated. The cause of death will become clear once the post-mortem report is received.”
Overcome with grief, the deceased student’s father, Debanshu Das, said, “I shared a friendship-like bond with my son; he used to share everything with me. Around 10:30 AM, the hostel superintendent called me over. Upon arriving, I learned that my son was no more! I cannot even imagine that he could do something like this. I cannot fathom what happened or why it happened.”
Expressing suspicion regarding the incident, he demanded an impartial investigation. He urged, “The police must find out if someone instigated my son or put him under pressure.” The school’s headmaster said, “Sukhen was a very quiet boy and did well in his studies. We had received no reports of any trouble involving him at the hostel. We never imagined such an incident would occur. We are extending full cooperation to the police, and arrangements are being made to provide counseling for the students.”
The school has been closed since the incident, and panic has spread among the boarders. The police have begun questioning other students and teachers at the hostel. Sukhen’s mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination.
No one can come to terms with the loss of such a young life in this manner. The true cause will be revealed through the post-mortem examination and the police investigation.
