Road Accident Claims Kanchrapara’s Pride: ITI National Topper Rithika Saha Passes Away
Kanchrapara, July 6, 2026: Rithika Saha, an accomplished student from Kanchrapara, has died following a motorcycle accident. She had been hospitalized in critical condition after the accident on Friday evening and breathed her last at a private hospital in Kolkata on Saturday. Her untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over the entire Jonpur-Rabindranagar area.
According to local sources, Rithika was riding pillion on a motorcycle on Friday evening when a lorry coming from the opposite direction collided with the bike in front of the Old Post Office in Kanchrapara. She was thrown onto the road and sustained severe injuries.
Rithika was initially taken to a local hospital, but as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Kolkata that same night. She passed away there on Saturday.
In 2025, Rithika Saha had secured the first position nationwide in the ITI Machinist trade, achieving a perfect score of 1200 out of 1200. She had received an award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. The entire state of Bengal had taken pride in the achievement of this daughter of Kanchrapara.
As news of Rithika’s death spread, social media was flooded with messages of condolence. Bijpur MLA Sudipta Das wrote on Facebook, “Faced with certain images, one loses the power of speech; words become helpless. I pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
From neighbors to teachers and classmates, everyone shares the same sentiment: “She was not meant to leave us like this.”
The police have launched an investigation to locate the lorry involved in the accident.
