Bharat Sevashram Sangha to Install Bust of Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Purulia on His Birth Anniversary

Purulia, July 6, 2026: Bharat Sevashram Sangha is set to install the first-ever bust of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Purulia to mark his 125th birth anniversary. The bust will be unveiled on Sunday, July 6, right outside the main gate of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha premises in Purulia town.

Swami Nityashuddhananda-ji Maharaj, Assistant Secretary of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, stated that there had previously been no statue of the social reformer, educationist, and politician Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Purulia. In 1940, the Sangha’s founder, Pranavananda-ji Maharaj, had garlanded Syama Prasad and encouraged him to move forward; this initiative is being undertaken with that historic connection in mind.

He said, “This bust is being unveiled to commemorate Dr. Mookerjee’s ideals and his contributions to the nation and society.”

The bust is being crafted by renowned Purulia-based artist Rahul Das. The structure is already complete, and the bust is scheduled to arrive at the Bharat Sevashram Sangha on Saturday. Artist Rahul Das remarked, “I feel proud to be associated with such a project.”

The event on July 6 is expected to be attended by Nadiyar Chand Bauri, the State Minister for Public Works and Backward Classes Welfare; Purulia MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato; and other MLAs.

Following the morning Prabhat Pheri (dawn procession), musical performances, and the unveiling ceremony, an impromptu speech competition centered on the life and ideals of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee has been organized.

Vivek Ranga, a member of the BJP state committee, said, “Our great leader Syama Prasad Mookerjee has made the most significant contribution to the progress India is witnessing today. The previous government sought to erase his history. We will move forward by upholding his work. Events will be held across the state. The initiative taken by Bharat Sevashram Sangha to unveil his bust is truly a commendable undertaking.”
