Lively Chariot Competition and Felicitation of Meritorious Students at Dakshin Khar Amidst Light Rain

Patashpur, July 26, muthokotha.in: On Thursday afternoon—the day before ULTO RATH (the return journey of the chariot)—the Dakshin Khar area of ​​Patashpur Block II was abuzz with festive spirit. Organized by the Dakshin Khar Star Club, a chariot competition and a felicitation ceremony for meritorious students were held at the Dakshin Khar bus stand on the Egra-Bajkul Road.

The colorful chariot competition began at 3 PM. A total of 150 chariots—ranging from small to large—participated in the event. Chariots arrived from almost every village in the Khar area, with many artisans traveling from far and wide to take part in the contest.

Braving the day-long light drizzle, thousands of people gathered on both sides of the road, holding umbrellas. The entire area resonated with the sound of chariot wheels and chants of “Jai Jagannath.” The enthusiasm of the crowd was truly remarkable.

The top 36 chariots in the competition were awarded a total of ₹1 lakh in prize money along with commemorative honors. Additionally, all participating chariots received a special prize of ₹200 and a memento.

Alongside the chariot event, meritorious students from the area were felicitated on stage. A total of 15 students were honored with the “Diptajit Mandal Memorial Award.” Each student received a certificate and a red sandalwood sapling.

From the event stage, the Star Club also demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility. Club leader Anandagopal Acharya stated, “Our club is engaged in social work throughout the year. Today, from this platform, we provided financial assistance to one person for a tricycle, another for a wedding, and two others for medical treatment.”

Club member Arnab Mishra said, “Standing by the needy is our primary goal. At the same time, twice a year—during Ratha yatra Saraswati puja—we combine social service with cultural and aesthetic events.”

Birajakanta Nanda presided over the event. Among those present were Egra Municipality Chairman Swapan Kumar Nayak, prominent social workers Naranarayan Das, Kamal Kumar Panda, and Debashis Acharya, as well as Pabitra Kumar Patra, a teacher at Barbatia High School.

By blending religious festivities, felicitations, and humanitarian service, the Rath Festival organized by Dakshin Khar Star Club has carved a special place in the hearts of the local residents.
