Staff Reporter, Kolkata, July 9, 2026: On Tuesday morning, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted search operations at multiple locations across the city in connection with a major case involving Trinamool’s party funds.
Where were the raids conducted?
ED officials raided the office of a company named ‘Carewell Aviation’ as well as the residence of its director. Sources indicate that various documents, bank statements, and digital devices were seized during the operation.
What is the core allegation?
According to the ED:
- Financial Transaction: Approximately ₹160 crore was transferred from Trinamool’s party fund to Carewell Aviation’s account.
- Asset Purchase: A small aircraft and a helicopter were purchased using those funds.
- Allegation of Use: Investigators have learned that the aircraft and helicopter were subsequently used by Trinamool’s All India General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, on a rental basis.
Questions Raised Regarding the Money Trail
This incident has raised a significant question: was money from Trinamool’s party fund being diverted or siphoned off into other channels in this manner?
In essence, the ED is investigating the financial transparency of this entire cycle—where party funds were first deposited into a company’s account to purchase assets, and those very assets were then rented back for the use of a party leader.
According to ED sources, officials will examine the seized documents to trace the full chain of the money’s source, destination, and usage. The director of Carewell Aviation and other associated individuals may also be summoned for questioning.
